Miami is as beautiful as ever

I've been visiting Miami for 30 years now.  I still love Miami Beach.  Here are a few pictures I took this weekend.

I had an idiot boss in Stowe that couldn't understand this

At a previous job I had an idiot boss that could not fathom that some workers cannot stand distractions like loud gum chewing, conversations, dogs making whining sounds, and so on.  I worked in an open office space and he refused to recognize that two of us (one being myself) cannot work with this irritations.  This doesn't surprise me because he was not creative and he was under qualified for his position.  Here is a good article about those of us that cannot function in such an environment.

Science Has Announced That People Who Hate the Sound of Chewing Have a Special Quality

Steveland

Just to make it clear, when they drill a hole into the Earth's crust in the Indian Ocean, in an attempt to reach the Earth's mantel, should the result be the birth of a volcano large enough to form an island, I, Stephen DeVoy, hereby claim that island as my own. As best I know, I am the first to make this claim. I shall name it Steveland. It will be all mine. Clear?

Life is Good

I saw her in concert and then at the Gammy Awards.  :)

She sang this one in the concert, one of my favorites...

Ti vorrei sollevare - Elisa

I'm in love with her voice and spirit.

White Marsh, Maryland

Handcuffed and Punished

I was bad.

Things that would suck (my biggest fears in life)

Things that would suck (my biggest fears in life):

Having a fatal car accident involving my slow death while music I don't like is blaring on the car radio and I can't shut it off because I can't move. This is one of my greatest fears, so I am very picky about what I'm willing to listen to while driving.

Knowing that an asteroid is about to hit the Earth and finding myself with a terrible migraine headache when I should be taking it all in.

Listening to people scream as the airplane I'm on is crashing. Can't they just shut the fuck up and let me focus?

Latin Grammy Awards, 2015

I had the pleasure of attending the Latin Grammy Awards last night.  It was a blast.  One of my favorite singers, Natalia Lafourade, won a Grammy.  I had the pleasure of seeing her perform at the Hard Rock Live the night before.

I took some pictures.  Photography equipment was prohibited, so I had to sneak some photos with my shitty smartphone.  With the lighting and the poor camera quality, I only took a few.

So, here I am just inside the building.

Going to the entrances to the venue and waiting until a commercial break to be let inside...

Above, eye candy...

Below, some pictures of the venue...

On Terrorism: It's not Islam, it's memetic-cancer...

Psychopaths engage in terrorism. Psychopaths are found among the religious and the non-religious.  Ideologies mobilize psychopaths to commit atrocities.  You can think of these psychopaths as the anti-bodies of the ideology.  Some believers in an ideology are like farmers, they sow seeds and create more believers.  Some believers in an ideology are like spores and stamens, they cause an ideology to manifest in different ways through the merger and cross-productization of concepts within an ideology.  Some believers in ideologies are creative and they mutate the ideology, causing it to explore new possibilities.  Some followers pass on these mutations, some leave the ideology.  Those mutations that are passed on, win the competition and evolution of the ideology takes place.  The anti-bodies attack outside ideas and police the ideas inside, trying to weed out the mutations.  From time time, a mutation gets out of hand and cannot be stopped by the anti-bodies and becomes a cancer.  This cancer is fundamentalism.

When someone continues to stalk you, for more than 23 years, it must be love.  I love you too, Bridget.  Let's dance! I know you want to.

I have bad news for you... you're going to die

When my father died a couple of years ago, the reality that we are all dying became impossible for me to ignore. This year, I also lost my brother. I made a decision. I decided that I should see the rest of my life as that gap in time before learning I will die and death.

We all think to ourselves, "If I found out I was terminally ill, I would do.....". I have news for you. You are terminally ill. We are all terminally ill. You just don't know how or when, but the fact remains, you are terminally ill. The sooner you do those things you would do if you knew, the more likely it is that you will do them.

We should all live our lives the way a terminally ill person would live his or her life because we all are terminally ill.

Thinking of My First Wife

Listening to this song made me think of her.  This is how I felt when I learned she was getting remarried, decades ago.  However, despite how I felt then, I think I made the right decision when we broke up.  There is so much of me that I would not have become had I stayed with her.  I feel like I've had a life now.  I've seen the World.  I am a father and I'm free.  I can ask for little more.  However, I do miss her because I really did love her.

Too Late for You

Crises are not always a bad thing...

Crises are not always a bad thing.  They can act as a filter separating real friends from fake friends.  They can shake apart unnatural bonds and allow their replacement by natural bonds as the debris settles and re-aggregates.  A crisis is an opportunity to see what matters most and what matters least.

Just came back from Greenland and Iceland

I had a nice visit to Greenland and Iceland.  The highlight of my trip was Greenland, as I once thought I would never have the opportunity to visit there, due to its remoteness.  The weather in Iceland was not so good while I was there, but the people and food were wonderful.  I would recommend Iceland to anyone seeking a nice place to visit.  I'm posting some pictures from that trip.

Landing in Kulusuk, Greenland.  The airstrip is packed dirt.  The landing was smooth.  One can walk to town.  As you will see later, I returned by dogsled.

Walking from Kulusuk Airport to the settlement of Kulusuk, Greenland:

Along the way we encountered this graveyard:
